Exporting Domino CA Root Certificate(s)

The process should not take but a few minutes.

Once the Domino CA is set up, you will need to access the Domino CA via Domino web server and install the CA root cert into your browser. Once on the Domino Web site, certificate authority application, click the "Accept this Authority into Your Browser" link. Click the Install Certificate button and follow the prompts to install and trust the cert into your browser.

Once the trust root authority is trusted by your browser, you can select the Domino CA root certificate for export to the necessary .cer format.

I performed these step from IE 9 as follows:

1. Open IE (steps differ slightly depending on browser) and access your Domino Web server's CA app (hostname/certreq.nsf). The Certificate Request database is what I used to set up my Domino CA.

2. Once the Domino CA Root Certificate is present in IE, go to Tools, Internet Options.

3. Go to the Content tab and click the Certificates button.

4. Go to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" tab.

There you should now see the Domino CA as a trusted entity among a list of the other trusted authorities. Find your Domino CA Root Certificate by the common name you gave it during the Domino CA setup.

5. Once you select the Domino CA Trust Root Certificate, the Export button will become available.

6. Click the Export button, select Next, and ensure that the default format of DER encoded binary X.509 (.cer) is selected.

7. Click Next, and give your Domino CA exported root certificate a file name (CAcommonName.cer for example) and place it on your desktop.

8. Click Finish and you will get "The export was successful" box and click OK.

9. Verify that you have the exported Domino CA Trusted Root certificate by going to the folder you saved it to.
